Appreciation and Encouragement

Message/Experiment of the Week:

Do you appreciate and encourage yourself and others? Are you a bucket filler (see podcast below)? Charles Schwab was one of the first people to earn a million-dollar salary, and he did it while working for Andrew Carnegie. When Carnegie was asked what made Schwab so valuable, he noted that Schwab did not criticize employees directly. Instead of reprimanding employees for smoking inside, he would politely ask them to smoke outside. He also challenged an unproductive division of his company to become more productive by pitting the night shift against the day shift. He put his focus on the results he wanted, instead of what he didn’t want, and he was very appreciative and encouraging of efforts toward those results.

For an experiment this week focus on appreciating and encouraging everyone you meet. Then write about the experience in your journal.
