Comfort is the Enemy of Progress

Message/Experiment of the Week:

What would you do if you didn’t care about being comfortable? Often we let comfort and fear of getting hurt keep us from making changes that could make our lives and the lives of others so much better. Making life changes creates the potential for new realities just like making gene changes creates the potential for new creatures. Some scientists at Google even think that their new quantum computer, Willow, proves that there is a multiverse where there is the potential to make almost anything a reality: Quantum Leap: Google Claims Its New Quantum Computer Provides Evidence That We Live in a Multiverse | EDRM - Electronic Discovery Reference Model - JDSupra.

For an experiment this week, look for things you know you should change, but you don’t because it could be uncomfortable. Next, make at least one small change to move you in the direction you want to go. It could be drinking one can of soda pop a day instead of two, or walking five minutes each day instead of not walking much at all, or it could be spending ten minutes of focused time with your kids or spouse instead of not much at all. Pick one thing and commit to it this week and see if you think sticking with it will make your life better.

Quotes of the Week:

  • “If you are willing to do only what’s easy, life will be hard. But if you are willing to do what’s hard, life will be easy.” ―T. Harv Eker

  • “With deliberate practice, however, the goal is not just to reach your potential but to build it, to make things possible that were not possible before. This requires challenging homeostasis—getting out of your comfort zone—and forcing your brain or your body to adapt.” ―Anders Ericsson, Peak
