Lies and Truth

Message/Experiment of the Week:

Are you lying to yourself? Do you ever think you are not good enough, smart enough or beautiful enough to go after your dreams and big goals? Those lies, when accepted as truth, become your reality. This is important because the thoughts you believe determine the person you’ll be. Your thoughts lead to your feelings, which lead to your actions, which lead to your results in life. Truth exists beyond belief, but when you believe lies, your perception becomes your reality. Craig Groeschel shares a great example of this with a story about “locking” his friend in a closet. His friend had been waiting in a closet to jump out and surprise him, but Craig could sense his friend, caught him, and told him that he was pushing a chair up against the door so his friend couldn’t get out. Craig couldn’t actually get the chair to lock the door in place, but his friend believed him and started crawling into the ceiling looking for a way out before Craig eventually told him the truth.

How often are you letting lies lock you in an unlocked closet?

For an experiment this week look for at least one lie that you are telling yourself and replace it with truth. Then write about the experience in your journal.

P.S. Special thanks to Craig Groeschel for introducing this concept in his book: Winning the War in Your Mind!

Quotes of the Week:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson
