Why Resolutions Fail

Message/Experiment of the Week:

How are your new year’s resolutions going? In the video below Alex Hormozi does a great job of explaining why many new year’s resolutions fail. You may naively commit to getting up an hour earlier each day and exercising, and then as you start doing it you realize that it is hard to get up early if you don’t go to bed earlier, and if you go to bed earlier you won’t have time watch a show at night. This is what Alex calls informed pessimism, which is followed by the dip of despair where things get difficult and you either quit, which most people do, or you grind through it and push forward until you eventually start seeing results from your exercise and achieve the success you were seeking. You may even figure out a way to go to bed earlier and then watch a show while exercising so that you get the benefits of exercise and sleep, and you get to watch a show. :)

For an experiment this week, pay attention to how many times you and others have given up in the dip of despair. Then use this awareness to help you push through future dips in your life.

Quote of the Week:
